Step 1
Talk with community officials and groups to determine what kind of community service is needed, what has been done recently and what activities have been successful.
-
Step 2
Consider the ages and number of 4-H club members volunteering for the activity. Assess their abilities and skills to determine what community service activities can be best completed by the group. Decide if the activity should be ongoing within the community or a one-time activity.
-
Step 3
Make a list of possible community service activities and allow the 4-H club members and their families choose which activity they should do. Decide this by ranking the activities by what is most important, can be done easily by the group and what amount of time the project takes.
-
Step 4
Delegate individual jobs involved with the community service activity to members. Each member should be responsible for playing a part in the activity, along with the group effort.
-
Step 5
Document the 4-H member's efforts as they complete the community service activity. Record each member's progress and accomplishments, along with the accomplishments of the entire club. Submit the information to the local newspapers and television stations. The 4-H members can be proud to show the community what they have done.
