Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Plan the trip according to what lessons the 4-H members need to learn. If you are doing a project on agriculture and farmland, plan a field trip to a local farm. Keep the field trips local and inexpensive if possible.
Step2
Contact the site you plan to visit. Make sure to call them well in advance to make reservations for your group. Let them know why you are going, how many students are going and when you want to visit. Find out if there are any fees or costs involved with visiting the site.
Step3
Designate adult supervision for the field trip according to how many students are attending the field trip. Schools have rules on how many adults are needed per number of students.
Step4
Arrange transportation for the 4-H members and the chaperones. If a large group is going on the trip, you may need to hire a bus and driver. Small groups can be driven in vans or rented cars. Be sure to add in the cost of transportation to the fee for the field trip.
Step5
Let the students know these details ahead of time: if they need to pack a lunch or bring money for lunch, what clothing is appropriate, if they need souvenir money, if cameras are allowed and if there will be overnight stays.
