How to Buy a T-Mobile ToGo Prepaid Cell Phone

A prepaid cell phone allows you to only purchase measured cell phone minutes and features. T-Mobile Wireless offers prepaid cell phones through their ToGo program. Prepaid plans do not require credit checks or contracts, so they are perfect for teenagers and adults with less than favorable credit or income. Use the following instructions to purchase a T-Mobile ToGo prepaid cell phone.

    How to Purchase a T-Mobile Prepaid Phone

  1. Step 1

    Go to the T-Mobile website (see Resources) and order a special prepaid phone online.

  2. Step 2

    Visit a T-Mobile store or authorized wireless dealer to purchase phones in-person without a credit card.

  3. Step 3

    To transfer ("port") your existing phone number from another cell phone provider, request the switch when you activate your phone. A new phone handset is necessary.

  4. Step 4

    Activate your phone once it arrives by calling T-Mobile. Purchase your first batch of minutes while activating your phone with T-Mobile, or use Section 2 for other methods.

  5. How to Buy or Refill Minutes

  6. Step 1

    To quickly refill your minutes, use your phone's "T-Zones" feature to purchase minutes from your phone without talking to anyone. Dial *ADD from your phone to order new minutes. You need a credit or debit card for both functions.

  7. Step 2

    Go to T-Mobile's website (see Resources) to refill your minutes.

  8. Step 3

    Visit a T-Mobile store or authorized dealer to refill your minutes (pay with a credit, debit card, check or cash).

  9. Step 4

    Buy a Refill Card from a variety of retail shops and convenience stores, and redeem online at the T-Mobile website (see Resources).

  • Purchase a phone and refill minutes at a T-Mobile store or authorized dealer to pay with cash.
