How to Study for a Salesmanship Exam

Do well on the salesmanship exam to establish a valuable foundation. Get salesmanship concepts down cold and you can get your way with a lot of people. After all, good salesmanship includes being able to "sell" your way or desires to others. All of this starts with smartly studying for your salesmanship exam.

Instructions

    • 1

Volunteer to do door-to-door campaigning before you begin your salesmanship class. It could be to sell magazines, get donations and get petitions. You want hands-on salesmanship experience.

    • 2

Read your salesmanship course text book cover to cover prior to your first class. Then go back and study the first two chapters. Pay attention to the learning objectives and read those chapters a second time. Highlight the sections of the first two chapters that satisfy the learning objectives.

    • 3

Take notes your first day of class. Introduce yourself as a part-time salesperson if you're required to give introductions in the first class. Volunteer your salesmanship experiences when the discussion matches an aspect of your job.

    • 4

Review your notes every night, and study every note you've taken since the first class. Apply the salesmanship concepts you learned to your salesmanship job. The test is easier when all you have to do is recall your own activity to find the answer to a question.

    • 5

Find other students in your salesmanship class and form a study-group. Thoroughly go through the text and quiz each other. Grab any opportunity to orally present concepts you've learned in class. Reinforce what you've studied from your notes and your text reading.

    • 6

Study sections of your book if you're not comfortable with a specific set of learning objectives. The learning objectives hint at what's going to be on the salesmanship exam. Continue reading your class notes until the night before the exam.

    • 7

Sleep well for at least 8 hours before the exam. Don't go overboard with your pre-exam meal. Read the entire exam before answering your first question. Let your subconscious mind work the answers while your conscious mind tackles one question at a time.
