Step 1
Check your computer's capabilities. World Wind is a large program that requires 2 gigabytes of space. Other requirements include a PC with an Intel Pentium 3, 1 GHz or AMD Athlon or higher. You should have Windows 2000 or XP operating programs. A 3D graphics card and DSL or cable modem connection are also needed.

See whether you have .NET runtime environment and Direct X installed on your computer. If not, these are free downloads.

Go to the World Wind website. Click the download button. World Wind software is a free download. Choose "Full install" if you don't already have a copy on your computer. Choose "Update" if you have a previous version.

Save the program to your hard disk, and then run the program.

Use your mouse to move around World Wind by clicking on the left button and dragging it around the globe. Right click and drag to change the perspective. Let go at any point. The mouse wheel allows you to zoom in and out.

Click on the menu for access to other features and visual guides. "Animations" shows items like tornados or hurricanes. "MODIS images" allows you to watch events like volcanoes and floods that happened days ago. Check temperatures around the globe. Visual guides assist with providing exact information.
