Many women love jewelry. Over the years you can accumulate so many pieces of jewelry that it may become difficult keeping track of what you own. Sorting jewelry is necessary if you are looking to sell some of the pieces, put some of the jewelry away for family members or take out some pieces to wear that you forgot that you even owned.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Take out all of the jewelry that you have. Remember all of the various places where you stored your jewelry. Some places may be in the safe, in a jewelry box, in hidden drawers in the house or even in the attic.
Step2
Organize piles of your jewelry into categories. For example, rings can be in one pile while bracelets can be in another.
Step3
Look at all of your jewelry pieces in each separate category. You should have many different piles consisting of rings, earrings, pins, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, brooches, among others.
Step4
Decide if you want to keep the a piece of jewelry in the first pile, want to cash it in, desire to donate it or keep it as a family heirloom.
Step5
Continue going through each pile, and organize the jewelry into the appropriate categories.
Step6
Finish sorting the jewelry by putting away the jewelry where it should belong. For the pieces you want to keep, organize them in a jewelry box. For the special pieces that you want to keep for family members, put them away in a special box. For all other pieces, get a separate container and then sell them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Contact your local pawn and jewelry shop for all the pieces that you want to sell. Look up various organizations either in your local yellow pages or online who might take your donated jewelry as well.
