How to Play the Original Barbie Board Game
The original Barbie board game--The Barbie Game: Queen of the Prom--hit stores in 1961. While many different Barbie games have surfaced over the years, the original is still the best. It doesn't take much to learn to play the game, and once you learn you'll have hours of fun.

Set up the Barbie Game before you start to play. The box has places to put the money and the I.O.U.'s. There are also spots for the boyfriend cards, dress cards and club president cards.

Pass out $25 to each player to start the game. Roll the dice to see who goes first. All players must start from the start square on the board.

Buy a dress. You must first land on a dress in one of the "Stop and Shops." If you don't have enough money, you can get an I.O.U. to help pay.

Get a boyfriend. When you do, keep your boyfriend card turned upside down.

Go steady with your boyfriend. You can do that at "On a Date" or "Class Party" and once you do, turn your card face up. You have to be going steady to go to the prom.

Become a club president. Go to the "School Clubs" section of the game and land on a club to become president. Pay attention as you leave because you may end up paying club dues.

Be the first to the prom. There are many setbacks on the board to keep you from getting to the prom. If you can avoid them and be the first to prom, you win the game. You'll be Queen of the Prom.

Tips & Warnings
You can't get a boyfriend, dress or club president that someone already has; you must land on another square. This is where the game can get tricky if the dice don't cooperate.
Enter "A Chance to Earn" to make money to buy your dress. You can also earn $10 by landing on the fashion show square.
The Barbie Game was wildly popular in the 1960s and you can now purchase a retro edition. For less than $25 you could be playing the game you loved so much in your youth.
Avoid "On a Date" if you can. You can go steady with your boyfriend at this section of the board, but it will slow you down and you must be quick to reach the prom first. Also avoid "In School" for the same reasons.
Be careful with I.O.U.'s. You will need to pay these off before you can enter the prom.
