Just when you aren't looking, someone leaves a damp glass on your beautiful wood kitchen table. Or maybe it was the party that got out of hand and you ended up with hot pizza boxes and Chinese take-out on that heirloom table. Don't give up and cry! There is a simple solution to remove the water stains from your kitchen table.

From Quick Guide: Removing Stains from Furniture
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Household iron
  • Clean cotton cloth
  1. Step 1

Clean or wash the top of the wood kitchen table thoroughly to remove any food or drink spills. Wipe the top surface dry with a clean towel.

  2. Step 2

Plug in your iron so that it can be heating. Be sure to place the hot iron on a safe surface and not directly on your wood kitchen table.

  3. Step 3

Locate the water stains that you are going to want to remove. Place the cotton cloth over the first stain that you will be working on. Smooth all the wrinkles out of the cloth.

  4. Step 4

Place the heated iron directly on top of the cotton cloth, which is directly on top of your water stain. Move the iron back and forth, slowly and gently, to heat the entire area for a few seconds at a time. This procedure will need to be repeated over and over as you keep checking the appearance of the water stain to see if there is improvement. Repeat this step on all the water stains that need to be removed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If for some reason the dry iron doesn't work on your table, try the procedure using the steam setting on your iron.
  • Do not use a cotton cloth that has a dyed pattern on it as it may bleed through and actually stain the table.
  • Your cotton cloth should not be too thick as it will be difficult for the heat from the iron to pass through. A kitchen towel is usually about the right thickness for your project.
  • Use caution while handling the hot iron and don't leave the iron unattended. Do not leave the iron resting on the cotton cloth for more than a few seconds at a time.
