How to Go Clubbing

You could spend Saturday night at home watching reruns of "Law and Order," or you could spend it zipped into your thigh-high leather boots with a flirtini in hand as you make small talk with the "beautiful people." If you're drawn to the latter description, get ready to go clubbing.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather the troops. For safety reasons, you probably don't want to go clubbing alone, especially if this is your first experience. Ideally, your entourage consists of one friend who is capable of fending off undesirables even after you've put on your "beer goggles," another who will hold your hair if you need to throw up and another who is famous for getting the party started. If you live in a suburban area where you may need to drive from club to club, you must have a designated driver with you as well.

  2. Step 2

Map out which clubs you plan to hit. Go first to the one you're least likely to want to leave, in case your entourage disperses or taxis are hard to come by. It's good to have at least three nightclubs on your list to keep the night interesting. More than five though will be a challenge if they are not located in a strip right next to each other.

  3. Step 3

Dress for fun. Men often choose dark-wash jeans, a fashionable shirt and a splash of cologne. For women, anything goes, as long as it's not boring. As for makeup, be dramatic: smoky eyes, sultry lips, shimmer on the cheekbones and on the body.

  4. Step 4

Be prepared. Mace, condoms, gum, a driver's license and cash are all things you might want to bring along just in case. Hopefully you won't need to use the mace.

Tips & Warnings
  • Nightclubs can be smoky, and your hair and clothes might smell for weeks afterwards. A quick way to reduce the odor of cigarettes from clothing is to throw it into a clothes dryer with several sheets of fabric softener.
  • Don't drink and drive. If you become intoxicated, have a sober buddy drive you home or take a taxi.
  • While clubbing is the perfect opportunity to break out your wildest attire, keep in mind that provocative clothes, horny men and booze don't always mix.
  • Never leave a nightclub alone with a stranger.
