Things You'll Need:
- Crochet hook, size G
- Three rolls of Espiga Thread, No. 18
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
-
Step 1
Make the body of the purse by chaining 40 and turning. Skip the first chain and single crochet in the remaining 38, chaining one and turning at the end of the row. Repeat 17 more times.
-
Step 2
Work around the body of the purse with 15 half-double crochet spaced evenly along the sides and the bottom. Place three half-double crochet in each of the two bottom corners. Use a slip-stitch to join with the beginning half-double crochet after finishing each round. Work around the purse in this manner 35 times and then tie off and cut the yarn.
-
Step 3
Repeat the same instructions for the other side of the purse and join the two pieces together with matching yarn.
-
Step 4
Do a sc into each sc around the purse openings. End with a slip-stitch in the beginning stitch to join.
-
Step 5
Start making the handles by joining the yarn with a single crochet in the 15th half-double crochet to the right of the center. Single crochet into 29 more stitches and turn. Continue with single crochet across, decreasing one single crochet at the beginning and the ending of each row. Remember to turn at the end of each row. Do this until there are 5 stitches left. Single crochet in the five remaining stitches for 45 more rows, chaining one and turning after each row. Tie off and cut the yarn at the end of these rows. You are going to make two handles. You start one from the front of the purse and the other from the from the back. This way you will always be starting in the 15th half-double crochet from the center.
-
Step 6
Finish by making the loop for the button closure. Crochet a cord to fit the button you have chosen and form it into a loop with a slip-stitch. Sew the button on one side of the purse and the loop on the other. Position them to form the closure.
