There are so many reasons that we end up with eyestrain. Perhaps you spend too many hours on the computer, watch too much television, don't get enough sleep or maybe read too much. With the lifestyles we have adapted to, we sometimes bring eyestrain upon ourselves. The course of action is to prevent the eyestrain to begin with.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Focus on the problems; dizziness and sore eyes may be indications that your eyestrain could be prevented if you have your eyes examined and be fitted for the proper glasses for your vision issues.

  2. Step 2

Rub your eyes because they are tired or dry and realize that this is an indication that your eyestrain could be prevented by using some moisturizing drops in your eyes, getting more sleep, watching less television and adjusting the lighting in your rooms.

  3. Step 3

Move the computer screen either higher or lower. Moving the monitor to be 20 to 26 inches from your eyes or adjusting the light reflecting off the monitor will help in preventing eyestrain. You may even consider replacing your computer monitor or screen with a larger one or a monitor that has some light reflection safe guards built in. Adjust the brightness controls on your monitor or purchase a filtered screen to place over your current monitor to help with the glare of the screen.

  4. Step 4

Wear your sunglasses when outside, especially if you are sitting out doors for an extended period of time reading a book or magazine. The direct sunlight is harmful to your eyes and your eyestrain and damage can be prevented or reduced by taking care of your eyes with the proper sunglasses. Be particularly careful when taking certain medications and being in direct sunlight as your eyes may be extra sensitive to the damaging rays of the sun at these times.

  5. Step 5

Exercise your eyes. This may help with preventing some types of eyestrain. Check with your eye doctor for the appropriate exercises that would be of help with your eyestrain situation.
