Toaster ovens are a convenient kitchen appliance. They're small and efficient. It's also more convenient then having to pull out a large cookie sheet to cook something small. The only problem with toaster ovens is that they get really messy. Follow these steps to clean a messy toaster oven.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off the toaster oven then unplug it. Let it cool completely before attempting to clean it.

  2. Step 2

Remove the crumb tray. Dump out the crumbs and then scrub it with dish soap, warm water and a nonabrasive sponge.

  3. Step 3

Wipe down the exterior of the toaster oven. Use a lint-free cloth and a sanitizing spray such as 409.

  4. Step 4

Clean the toaster oven's interior with warm, soapy water and a sponge. Warm water will help to dissolve the grease.

  5. Step 5

Scrub the hard-to-remove food buildup with a synthetic scouring pad. If you wipe it clean after each use you should be able to avoid the buildup of food.

  6. Step 6

Remove and clean the shelving with warm soapy water. Let it dry thoroughly before putting it back in the toaster oven.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wiping down the toaster oven after each use will make it easier when performing a thorough cleaning.
  • Empty the crumb tray regularly to prevent it from burning onto the tray itself.
  • Never submerse a toaster oven in the water when it's plugged in. You can be electrocuted resulting in injury or death.
  • Make sure the toaster oven and your hands are completely dry before plugging it back in.
