How to Become an Animal Chiropractor
Like people, animals can have back problems too. Some animals may even need the services an animal chiropractor. Animal chiropractic is a specialized area of veterinary medicine. To become an animal chiropractor, one must first become a veterinarian. Then, if one wants to pursue a career as an animal chiropractor, the candidate can follow the steps necessary to become a certified-and help animals "adjust" to a healthier, pain-free life. Attend a 4-year veterinary school. You must be a licensed veterinarian before pursuing a career as an animal chiropractor. Or, you can complete a 4-year program at an accredited chiropractic college and become a licensed doctor of chiropractic.

Enroll in an accredited animal chiropractic program offered by the Animal Chiropractic Accreditation Commission of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Upon passing the exit exam, contact the Animal Chiropractic Certification Commission to obtain an examination candidate handbook.

Pass written and clinical examinations the Animal Chiropractic Certification Commission administers. Do this within one year of completing the aforementioned courses.

Complete a 40-hour internship within one year following the passing of the examinations. When you finish, pass another round of written and clinical examinations.

Submit your internship documentation to the American Chiropractic Certification Commission and the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association offices.

Renew your certification every three years. Participate in continuing education courses and seminars in the field.

This statement "To become an animal chiropractor, one must first become a veterinarian" is not true. In many states (all????), chiropractors that work on humans also can become animal chiropractors.
