Step 1
Keep an open mind. While some collectors tend to be narrow-sighted about what they collect, with dragon collecting the more varied the collection the cooler it is. Think about drawings, paintings, statuettes, films and even life-size cutouts of the mythical monsters themselves.
-
Step 2
Brush up on dragon mythology. Learning about dragon lore and mythology is a first step into the world of dragon collecting. Being able to identify different kinds of dragons will help you gauge where a dragon collectible, such as a painting or piece of Eastern pottery, originated and what its value might be.
-
Step 3
Be vigilant. Anyone who knows about dragons, knows that you need to keep your eyes peeled around them. The same is true for dragon collectibles: sometimes the most valuable or rare dragon collectible is where you'd least expect it. Look around old antique shops, garage sales and flea markets to find interesting and valuable dragon collectibles.
-
Step 4
Use the Internet to tame the beast. There are actually entire dragon collecting communities on the web that can help you get your bearings or direct you to high quality collectibles. Check out JR's Dragon Collection web page to see a good example of a dragon collecting disciple. Use sites like these as a guide for your own dragon collection.
