Ironing a jacket is an easy task, but it requires special techniques to prevent the jacket from getting burned. Use an iron on your jacket when wrinkles or creases have not fallen out from hanging on a wide hanger for sometime. Follow these steps next time you need to iron your jacket.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ironing board
  • Aluminum foil
  • Towel, brown paper bag or newspaper
  1. Step 1

Examine the jacket's material. A simple cloth jacket is very easy to iron, whereas other fabrics like leather and suede are more challenging. For a cloth jacket, use the same method you use to iron clothing. For other fabrics, follow the steps below.

  2. Step 2

Turn on the iron. Adjust the setting to the lowest point and do not use steam. Let the iron get hot before ironing.

  3. Step 3

Put aluminum foil underneath the ironing board cover. This helps absorb heat from the iron and reflects it back up. This way you only have to iron one side of the jacket and wrinkles from both sides are smoothed.

  4. Step 4

Place a thick newspaper, clean towel or thick brown paper bag on the jacket. Iron the jacket in small strokes. Press down one part of the jacket quickly and lift the iron. Let it cool before moving forward. Use soft pressing and lifting motions to iron the whole jacket. For the collar, iron from the underside of the end points and continue moving towards the middle. Do not stretch the jacket while ironing.
