1
Wear mittens. Anytime the weather is below 40 degrees, you should wear protective gear on your hands. Mittens are the best choice because they allow the palm and fingertips to share heat. Gloves isolate the fingertips, which don't generate a lot of heat on their own. Cold fingers are a sign of slower circulation in your hands. Circulation is what nourishes your cuticles, keeping them healthy.

2
Keep nails short. Cutting your fingernails short reserves body resources for your cuticles. Short nails can remain healthy with less moisture, which is what they get in the winter.

3
Moisturize regularly. Cuticles require extra moisture in the winter to remain healthy. Apply a rich hand lotion several times a day, especially after washing your hands. In the evening while watching TV, massage olive oil into your nails, fingertips and cuticles. When you're ready to go to bed, wipe the excess oil from your hands with a paper towel.
-
4
Use moisturizing soap. In the winter, switch to a soap that won't dry your skin the way deodorant soap does. Use a moisturizing soap at the sink and in the shower to help maintain a healthy moisture balance in your skin, especially your cuticles.
-
5
Protect hands from water. Water washes the natural oils from your cuticles. Keep your hands dry by wearing latex gloves to wash dishes or do any tasks in water.
