If you want to add a conversation piece to your master bath, guest bath or even a powder room, all you have to do is rethink how you use certain objects and turn them into something unexpected. Take that old wooden ladder that has been sitting in your parents' garage for the last 20 years, and transform it into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind rack that adds both storage and aesthetics. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Give the ladder a face lift. Chances are that if it is indeed an old ladder that you have "borrowed" from a relative or found at a flea market, the ladder will need some sanding and painting. Use a color that complements the space and allow the paint to completely dry.
Step2
Protect the paint. It's a great idea to take the extra step to keep your paint job looking beautiful, especially since the bathroom is a room that abounds in moisture. Spray the newly painted ladder with an acrylic sealer to prevent the paint from lifting and peeling.
Step3
Add some window screening to make a place to hang your earrings before taking a shower. If you cut the window screen to the size of the opening between two rungs and staple it to the back of the ladder, it will have the effect of looking like a framed window from the front.
Step4
Secure hooks to the top rung. By screwing in a few cup hooks, you have the perfect place to hang necklaces you need to remove. The hooks will allow the necklaces to hang separately without tangling.
Step5
Attach a piece of corkboard in the same manner that you attached the screen to create a space to tack receipts, memos and other important slips of paper you find in your pants pockets.
Step6
Leave a few rungs empty. The empty rungs provide a great space to hang bath and hand towels as well as washcloths. It's also a good place to drape a robe for when you get out of the bath or shower, or your worn clothes before you have a chance to put them in a hamper.
