How to Study for a Stenography Exam

Do well on your stenography exam if you want a job that lets you in on real gossip. Don't kill yourself cramming the wee before the exams. Spread your studying out throughout the course, and take full advantage of your practical exercises. Read on to learn more.

Step1
Read your stenography text cover to cover. Get familiar with the terminology and with how to do the exercises. Take notes during class and review these notes daily. Download any stenography related software on your home computer; don't restrict practice time to the classroom.
Step2
Do the in class stenography exercises. Keep doing the exercises until you feel that these exercises are muscle memory. Don't be afraid to help your classmates out, people help each other out in this profession.
Step3
Go home and review your notes. Don't just study that day's notes, study all your stenography notes from day one. Then proceed to your computer and do more stenography exercise. Record the number of hours you take to do these hands on exercises. Tally these hours for a total number of hours completed per course. You want your resume to list a large number of hours experience.
Step4
Study the chapters for the following class in addition to your notes. Do the hands on exercises in advance. Write your questions down if you can't figure something out. Ask these questions first thing when arriving in class.
Step5
Get together with other students in your class to form a study group. Find a way to make stenography study fun. Create "Stenography Jeopardy" and hold competitions.
Step6
Review the chapters covered before an exam, plus scheduled chapters for that week. Go over and touch up on any stenography exercises you're not comfortable with yet. Wake the day of the test ready to tackle a written or hands-on test.
