How to Promote a Movie on MySpace
MySpace isn't just for rock groups anymore. Filmmakers now use the social networking site to promote their videos and movies. If Sony, Fox, and Warner Brothers have made MySpace an integral part of their marketing campaigns, independent filmmakers can do it too. Here's how to set up a MySpace page to get the word out about your new flick.

1
Create a MySpace page for your movie. Use a poster or scene from the movie as your default picture and include stills on your photo pages. Save personal pictures for your own page. This page is to promote your movie only.
-
2
Include 1 or 2 video clips from your movie on your film's profile page. Avoid using too many at one time. You don't want to give the plot away, but post enough to arouse people's interest. You might change the clip every few weeks to keep your MySpace friends coming back for more.
-
3
Post bulletins with news about screenings, contests and other publicity to promote the film. If you need a street team to help pass out flyers or post info about your film on message boards, use bulletins to recruit members and send them buttons, stickers and free movie passes or DVDS for their help.
-
4
Send out as many friend requests as you can, but target people who have similar movies or interests on their profiles. If your movie is about punk rock, don't send add requests to classical music fans. Stick with prospects interested in the subject of your movie.
-
5
Answer all emails quickly and succinctly. If you don't have time to do it yourself, have an assistant or friend help you.
-
6
Post comments on your friends' pages from time to time, but don't inundate them with garish flyers daily or even weekly when you promote your movie. Good promotion is knowing when to say when. You don't want to alienate people by spamming them with advertising.
