How to Visit Frankenmuth, Michigan
Frankenmuth is Little Bavaria in the heart of southern Michigan. The popular tourist town, founded in 1845 by Lutheran immigrants from Bavaria, is filled with German charm. Each September, Frankenmuth hosts its annual Oktoberfest, with beer, dancing, music and fun.

Plan a trip to southeastern Michigan. Frankenmuth is located just off of I-75, between Flint and Saginaw, Michigan. The town is also just over an hour-and-a-half drive from the Detroit Metro area.

Stroll along Main Street. Frankenmuth's Main Street is a miniature version of a Bavarian village. The shops are restored in the Old German style and the streets are paved with cobblestones. You can also hire a horse-drawn carriage to drive you around the town.

Eat a Frankenmuth chicken dinner. Both Zehnder's and the Bavarian Inn serve the traditional all-you-can-eat Frankenmuth chicken dinner. The family-style dinner is brought by servers in traditional German garb and is accompanied by festive polka music.

Listen to the glockenspiel. Outside of the Bavarian Inn stands the Old Clock Tower. Six times a day, the 35-bell carillon plays a selection of German songs while the figurine movement acts out the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

Shop at Bonner's. Bonner's Christmas Wonderland, located just south of downtown, calls itself the "World's Largest Christmas Store." The huge, 7.35-acre, building features an inventory of over 50,000 holiday items, including ornaments, Santas, lights and everything imaginable having to do with Christmas. Open 361 days a year, the store welcomes over 500,000 visitors annually.
