The Killick Hitch Knot is used when you need to pull something, such as a log. The Killick Hitch Knot is the Timber Hitch Knot with an added half hitch. Use it to pull long or odd-shaped objects. Also use it to tie an object to a rope for use as a boat anchor. Follow these steps to tie a Killick Hitch Knot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pass the end of a rope underneath a cylindrical object. Pull it until you have four to five feet to tie the knot with.

  2. Step 2

Bring the end of the rope over the object, under the left side of the lying rope and back over the object. Pull it loosely taut.

  3. Step 3

Guide the rope to the left and loop it under the rope around the object several times. Pull hard on both ends of the rope to tighten.

  4. Step 4

Move the end of the rope down the length of the cylindrical object. Pass the rope under the object and then tuck the rope back around it self.

  5. Step 5

Pull the object from the long end of the rope. The Timber Hitch Knot with the added half hitch keeps the object from swinging around when pulled.

Tips & Warnings
  • This knot is good for towing long and heavy loads over water. If you try to pull something that's smooth, the knot might slip.
  • The name "Killick" means an anchor for a small boat. It is constructed from L shaped tree limbs, a large rock, and rope or twine. The rope or twine is used to bind the tree limbs around the large rock.
