Things You'll Need:
- Small pry bar
- Hacksaw
- Roof cement or silicone
- Hammer
- 1 1/4-inch aluminum nails
-
Step 1
Remove the damaged end caps. Some of them may be stubborn and have to be pulled up and cut off with a hacksaw. Remove the nails, using the pry bar if necessary.
-
Step 2
Remember when replacing the new ones, they go on in the same position as the ones you removed.
-
Step 3
Examine the material under the end caps. If damage has been present for a while, there may be water damage, mold or rot. Make necessary repairs before replacing them.
-
Step 4
Start at the bottom end cap and work your way up. Slide them in place with the bottom edges of the siding overlapping them at the top. Hammer aluminum nails into the tabs at the top of each cap.
-
Step 5
Cut the nailing strip off the top cap. This should be the last damaged one you replace. Apply silicone or roofing cement to the back. Place the top of it under the bottom lip of the cap above it. Press firmly in place to make sure the silicone or cement has made good contact.
