Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Plywood
- Grout
- Trowel
- Slate tiles
- Hammer
Step1
Pick a location for your slate barbecue. You will want to place it somewhere it will both look good and serve your family and friends well. They can be built on a patio or in the backyard. Select the place that is best for you.
Step2
Decide how much space you want your slate barbecue to occupy. You can build one to simply house the barbecue, but you can also build one that has a countertop and cabinets. Measure the dimensions you want and note them on paper.
Step3
Select the kind of slate for your barbecue. Slate comes in several shades and colors. Buy enough wood to build the barbecue and enough slate to cover the outside.
Step4
Build the barbecue. Cut the wood to the dimension you want and build the skeleton of the barbecue.
Step5
Nail plywood to make walls on the barbecue frame you just built. Make sure that it is attached well. Use plenty of nails. Use some additional adhesive if you want. Slate is pretty heavy so you want this to be sturdy.
Step6
Cover the walls with slate by fixing the tiles to the walls with grout. Grey grout usually looks good with most slate.
Step7
Use a wet towel to wipe off any grout that gets on the outside of the slate. Allow everything to dry.
