Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Check that your grill will be compatible with an added side burner. Although mostly all grills will be, a few older and less advanced grills may not have the proper equipment or connections to work with the side burner you choose.
Step2
Assess the uses of the side burner. Side burners come in all kinds, sizes and uses, so it is important that you think of what you will be using it for on a regular basis. If you are merely heating things to warmer temperatures, you should consider a side burner that doesn't have as much heat or power. If you are looking for something to boil lobster while you are cooking something else on the grill, you should make sure your side burner has the heat capabilities needed for that task.
Step3
Pick a size that is compatible with your grill. Side burners traditionally sit to the side of the actual heated part of the grill, and a side burner that won't fit on the grill shelf is considerably harder to deal with and to use.
Step4
Choose between a double or a single side burner. This is a difficult question for many, and the correct answer can only be determined by the person who will be using and buying the grill. Depending on intended uses and the amount of food that will be cooked on the side burner(s), the answer will vary.
Step5
Install the side burner, or have someone do it for you. Test it to see if it works properly.
