How to Knock Out a Bunker
Bunkers or fortified positions have been a part of warfare since humans lived in caves. The modern tactics for building defensive fortifications into the ground, into modern bunkers and trenches, started in the American Civil War. Overrunning and destroying these positions is still the work of the modern infantry. The following steps discuss how to knock out a bunker.
Instructions

-
1
Study the terrain to plan the best route to approach the bunker.
-
2
Split your group into two. The first group will be positioned towards the front of the bunker. They will keep the enemies' heads down, by providing suppressive fire, as the other group assaults the bunker.
-
-
3
Take your assault group along the safest route to the assault staging area. Once you have confirmed that your assault squad is there and ready to go, begin the assault.
-
4
Tell the base-of-fire group to lift or shift the suppressive fire as you approach.
-
5
Breach and destroy the bunker position with grenades or explosive breaching devices.
-
6
Have your base-of fire and assault groups team up after destroying the bunker and clearing the position of intelligence and ammunition.
-
7
Continue your mission.

Tips & Warnings
The assault could start from half a km or more away. It is important that the bunker not know where the assault will come from.
You will need to find a route hidden from view by the people in the bunker.
It is useful to call in indirect or infantry mortar support on fortified positions. This support would be base-of-fire support and should be shifted when the main base-of fire is shifted.
Physical fitness is an important attribute in the Infantry. Assaults such as this must be performed with overwhelming speed and accuracy. Both are difficult if you are out of shape.
If the bunker is too sturdy or tough to breach with conventional explosives, then send someone close to the bunker to throw a grenade into an opening. The tough walls will keep the explosion inside the bunker causing more damage to the personnel within.
Never send an assault group behind a position to start an attack. They would then be assaulting towards the base-of-fire element. This could lead to a friendly-fire incident.
