How to Make a Christmas E-Card
Fancy paper Christmas cards are fun to look at, but require lots of work. Rolls of stamps, trips to the mailbox and writer's cramp take up precious time that could be spent on shopping or entertaining. Making and sending a Christmas e-card is a great way to save money and share your creativity with friends and family. E-cards have quickly shed their "second class citizen" status.

1
Choose a software program. Photoshop is the most popular one for creating e-cards. By using the pen tool, you can create your own pictures, or import original photos or drawings from other sources and edit them to make a perfect e-card. Search for programs formulated specifically to create e-cards if you aren't Photoshop savvy.

2
Brainstorm a motif. A wacky Christmas card will need different artwork than a religious or family-oriented one. Once you've decided on a motif, search the web and your hard drive for the appropriate pictures, lettering and color palette for the card.

3
Look at clip art, music and other components. If you want to add Christmas music to your card, use WAV, MP3 or WMA files. A software program such as E-Card Magic simplifies this process. Royalty-free clip art is available from a number of sources and can easily be added to your card by copy-and-paste and other methods.

4
Experiment with design. If you simply want to add text to a photo you've taken, you can do that with digital camera software, greeting card creators, Photoshop or even Paintbrush Pro. Try different designs, using paper if you're old school and if it makes you comfortable.

5
Prepare e-cards for distribution. Check the size of the file, and decide whether you want to do a mass mailing using one CC'ed e-mail or send each one individually.
