Smugglers is a fun variation on the kids' game of tag. The more kids, the better with this game.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • An even number of kids (10-20)
  • An object to be the "jewel"
  • A large area to run
Step1
Split the groups of kids in this game into two teams–the "Ins" and the "Outs." You need to have an even number to make it fair. If you have an odd number of players, take turns on who will sit out and be the referee, or just play with an uneven team.
Step2
Decide who will be have the "jewel" on the Outs team. The jewel can be a coin, stone, small toy, or anything that can fit in the palm of your hand without being seen. No one on the Ins team must know who has the jewel.
Step3
Count to 50 if you are on the Ins team, while the team is in the spot designated as the "Den."
Step4
Move far away from the Ins group while they are counting, if you are on the Outs team.
Step5
Yell "Smugglers!" collectively with the other players if you are on the Ins team after the team is finished counting, then run toward the Outs team to tag them.
Step6
Open your hand to show whether you have the jewel or not if you are on the Outs team and are tagged. Teammates on the Outs team may secretly pass around the jewel as often as they like to confuse those on the Ins team.
Step7
Change sides when the person with the jewel is tagged.

Tips & Warnings

  • Every player on the Outs team should hold their hands in a fist as if they are carrying the jewel to confuse the Ins team players.
