There are different types of hopscotch games. Texas hopscotch resembles the regular type of hopscotch played in the United States with just a few variations. Following these steps will show you how to play the game of hopscotch Texas style.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • At least 2 players
  • A puck
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Sidewalk

    Set Up

  1. Step 1

Find a puck to use in your game. A small lid from a bottle or jar works great.

  2. Step 2

Draw two squares with sidewalk chalk side by side and number them "1" and "2" from left to right.

  3. Step 3

Draw one square the same size above these two directly in the middle and label it "3."

  4. Step 4

Draw a large box above the third square so that the width is the same as the first two boxes put together and the length is about one and a half as long as the boxes you've already drawn.

  5. Step 5

Draw an "X" on this large box from corner to corner. You should now have four triangles in the box. Label the closest triangle to number three as "4", the next triangle to the left of four label "5," the triangle to the right of number four label "6," and the top triangle label "7."

  6. Step 6

Draw another single box identical to number three directly above and in the middle of the top of the large square. Label this box as "8."

  7. Step 7

Draw two squares above number eight identical to the first two squares you drew in the grid. Label them "9" and "10" from left to right. Now you have your Texas type hopscotch grid and you're ready to play.

  8. Play the Game

  9. Step 1

Throw your puck into the first square.

  10. Step 2

Jump onto squares 1 and 2 with one foot in each box, then hop onto square 3 with both feet, then 4. Jump onto the squares 5 and 6 with one foot in each box, then box 8, then 9 and 10 with one foot in each box.

  11. Step 3

Jump up and turn around in the air until you are facing the opposite direction looking down the hopscotch grid. Your feet should still be on squares 9 and 10.

  12. Step 4

Hop back down just the same way you hopped up until you are at square one where your puck is. Pick up your puck and hop off the grid. It is now the next player's turn.

  13. Step 5

Throw your puck on each box in the sequence each time your turn comes around again, and hop through the grid the same way each time.

  14. Step 6

Lose a turn if your puck misses the box or lands on a line.

  15. Step 7

Win the game by being the first to complete all ten throws successfully.
