Contact one of the many Appalachian historical societies and organizations to learn more about Appalachian culture. Consider tracing your ancestry. Many people will find that their ancestors either lived in Appalachia at one time, or passed through there during the westward expansion of America.

Go to an Appalachian cultural festival in your area. There are many all over the US, and it's a great chance to meet new people, learn more about the culture, and appreciate firsthand the beautiful arts and crafts of Appalachian artists.

Immerse yourself. Take a road trip or book a vacation in the mountains and really connect to the natural beauty and friendly people of the Appalachian Mountains. Go on a historical tour or walk part of the Appalachian Trail. Learn about Native American history in the area, or simply enjoy the view. No matter what you do, you'll have a great time learning to appreciate Appalachian culture.
