1
Call ahead of time and let your friend or host know when you will be arriving. Be specific about the length of your stay. This way your host will have a better idea how to get ready for your arrival.
-
2
Get your own transportation to get to your host's home if possible. Otherwise, kindly ask for them to pick you up. Offer to pay for the gas or fill up the gas tank for her.
-
-
3
Come as planned. Do not give any undue surprises such as bringing an additional friend or pets.
-
4
Bring only what you will need; don't haul your whole closet along.
-
5
Bring a house gift for the host family as a gesture of your gratitude. The gift could be chocolate, a souvenir or anything that reflects your thoughtfulness. If your host has children, bring something for them to let them know you are thinking of them. Be creative, and you won't have to spend too much on gifts.
-
6
Work your schedule around the host family's priorities. Don't expect them to take you everywhere for sightseeing. Be considerate and try to plan some activities yourself. Your host still has to go on with his life.
-
7
Eat what is served and be grateful that you are getting cooked meals. Help to wash the dishes without being asked.
-
8
Help to keep the house tidy. Don't put your feet on the furniture or leave your belongings around the house. Clean up after yourself and keep your room neat and tidy. Make your bed each morning after you wake up.
-
9
Keep the bathroom and toilet area clean. Wipe up water spots on the sink and the counter after brushing or washing. Hang up your towel neatly and turn off the light when you exit the bathroom.
-
10
Avoid leaving the shower with a towel wrapped around you; always get dressed in the bathroom before coming out. Don't forget to bring your own toiletry supplies.
-
11
Ask before you use anything in the house. Don't take the saying "Make Yourself at Home" literally. Always say "Please" and "Thank you." Be respectful in your language.
