Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Chemical Options
Step1
Purchase a chemical that eliminates weeds. Popular brands include Weed B Gone, Roundup and an organic version called BurnOut.
Step2
Clear your patio of all furniture and potted plants.
Step3
Spray each weed with the chemical weed killer. If there are a large number of weeds, spray the entire weeded area in a sweeping, back-and-forth motion.
Step4
Repeat these steps for any weeds that are still green after 48 hours.
Step5
Sweep up the weeds and dispose of them in a landscape trash bag once the weeds have turned brown and dried. Chemically treated weeds or weeds that have sprouted should not be placed in a compost pile.
Non-Toxic Options
Step1
Clear the patio of all furniture and potted plants.
Step2
Fill a spray bottle with white distilled vinegar or lemon juice. Vinegar is cheaper than lemon juice and equally effective. The acid in both sources is what kills the weeds.
Step3
Douse each weed liberally with the vinegar or lemon juice. This works best on a hot, sunny day when the patio is in direct sun.
Step4
Use an alternative method to vinegar or lemon juice by pour boiling water on each weed. This, however, wastes precious water.
Step5
For any weeds left standing after using non-toxic methods of weed removal, put on a pair of gardening gloves and remove each weed by hand.
Step6
Sweep up the weeds and dispose of them in a landscaping garbage bag once the weeds have turned brown and dried up. Weeds should not be placed in a compost pile.
