The Man of the Trapeze is best performed with a fixed-axle yo-yo. The fixed axle makes it easier to bring the yo-yo back up from the bottom of the string. The following steps will show you how to perform the Man of the Trapeze.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A yo-yo with a fixed axle
  1. Step 1

Grip the yo-yo in the open palm of your hand with the palm facing upward. Bend your arm at the elbow, bringing the yo-yo towards you as if you are trying to make a muscle.

  2. Step 2

Throw a spinner-toward the left side (if your left is your dominant side, reverse these steps). It may take time to master this throw if you've never done it before, so practice this until you can do it.

  3. Step 3

Hold out your pointer finger of the opposite hand you are throwing the yo-yo with. As the string hits your finger, let the string go around and over it.

  4. Step 4

Let the yo-yo hit the string again as the string falls into the axle, about 3 to 6 inches from your finger.

  5. Step 5

Allow the yo-yo to drop into the middle of the string and hold up both hands just below chest level. It should now have 3 strings hanging down from your hands to the yo-yo.

  6. Step 6

Let the yo-yo swing back and forth as if it were a man on a trapeze.

  7. Step 7

Return the yo-yo to your hand by jerking up your yo-yo hand and pulling your finger up with the string still on it. Flick the yo-yo string with the finger of your opposite hand as it heads back into the yo-yo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't get frustrated if you can't do this right away. This is an advanced trick and requires practice.
