A bereavement card is the most difficult type of card to send. It does not usually contain a joyous message, like a birthday or congratulations greeting card. Although it is card that most people don't look forward to sending, the receiver will greatly appreciate the knowledge that you care enough to send a bereavement card.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Take time to pick out an appropriate bereavement card. Read the messages carefully and locate one that conveys the message that you are sorry for their loss and that you will be there for them.
Step2
Send the bereavement card to the widow or closest living relative of the deceased. They will convey your sympathy to the rest of the family.
Step3
Leave out the tired phrases. When you write your message, leave out the trite sayings like, "I know what you're going through" or "He is in a better place now." Instead write things like, "She will never be forgotten" or "He touched the lives of so many."
Step4
Close the card with a kind phrase. Closings that you can use include "With Deepest Sympathy," "With Love," or "Our prayers are with you."
Step5
Write out your entire name. The bereaved may be receiving a lot of cards and needs to be able to clearly identify each sender.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can send flowers along with a bereavement card or make a donation to the deceased's favorite charity.
  • Do not send a bereavement e-card. Although they are offered on the web, it is more appropriate to send a traditional card.
