Finding any kind of doctor can be stressful, but is especially true in the case of a plastic surgeon. A plastic surgeon has the ability to enhance or worsen your appearance. If you are interested in getting any type of plastic surgery work done, take some time to research your area's surgeons.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get referrals for plastic surgeons. Ask for a recommendation from your doctor or find a friend that has undergone plastic surgery. Inquire about the surgeon's manner and expertise.

  2. Step 2

Check the surgeon's credentials and experience. Your plastic surgeon should be board certified and have been practicing in the field for several years. You may also find out any of the surgeon's specialty areas.

  3. Step 3

Set up a consultation. This gives you a chance to see if the plastic surgeon is the right choice for your surgery. The candidate should answer all your questions and allow you to question their background.

  4. Step 4

Look at the facility where the surgery will be performed. You want to see where the plastic surgeon performs his operations. The operating room should be clean and professionally equipped.

  5. Step 5

Check to see if the doctor has privileges at an area hospital. Plastic surgeons permitted to operate at a hospital have likely undergone an extensive review performed by their peers.

Tips & Warnings
  • You want to make sure that the facility where the surgery is being formed has been accredited as well.
  • Don't let professional societies carry too much weight with your decision on choosing a plastic surgeon. Most of these societies are open to anyone and have a limited screening process.
