An eye lift, or blepharoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that involves removing the excess skin and fat on the eyelids. A person who gets an eye lift done can instantly have years taken off of their face. It is one of the most popular plastic surgeries performed.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Visit a board certified plastic surgeon. An initial consultation should be set up to see if you are a good candidate for the eye lift. Good candidates are physically and mentally healthy men and women who are over the age of 35.
Step2
Go through pre-operative testing. Your vision will be tested along with your tear ducts. Your general health and the medications that you are on will also be recorded.
Step3
Prepare for your surgery. Follow any instructions that the surgeon gives you. You need to have a driver bring you home, and you need to find out where the surgery is being performed. Most eye lifts are done on an outpatient basis and last only a few hours.
Step4
Have the eye lift surgery done. The surgeon will make cuts on the eyelids and separate the skin of that area. The fat will be removed and the skin sutured back together.
Step5
Follow all post-op instructions. You'll probably be given ointment and dressings for the eye area. You need to keep your head elevated for several days and use compresses to reduce the swelling.

Tips & Warnings

  • Younger men and women can have an eye lift done if baggy eyelids run in your family. This factor needs to be discussed with your plastic surgeon.
  • A rare complication that can occur is the inability to close your eyes when you are sleeping.
