Consider your characteristics. Scholarship consultants need to have social, outgoing personalities in order to network well. They must also be ambitious: being easily discouraged by red tape means sure failure in this position. Other characteristics include the ability to persuade and communicate, and the ability to work with teenagers.

2
Educate yourself. Most scholarship consultants have at least a Bachelors degree in a liberal arts area. Some are former scholarship athletes themselves. To plan your education around this career, consider majors in Student Affairs, Adult/Secondary Education, Higher Education or Counseling. Peruse your University's website for the best program, or visit your school's career center for additional help.

4
Collect successful clients. Your future clients judge you based on your past clients. Cultivate successful relationships during your institutional employment to use for future references.

Stay Educated. Currently, licensure is not required for this career. But, the key to advancement in any field is constant learning. Seek out conferences and training through professional associations such as the American Council on Education, or by reading industry literature such as the Chronicle of Higher Education.
