Make a Bathtub Scrubber

Whether you've got a neat claw foot tub that's been around the block a few generations or a brand new sunken whirlpool tub, you don't want to clean it with abrasive solutions or stiff bristles. The solution is to make your own bathtub scrubber and some homemade, natural cleanser to go with it.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 yard of Nylon tulle
  • Strong thread

Instructions

    • 1

Mix your own general cleaning solution to use with your homemade bathtub scrubber. Make up a mix of two parts baking soda to one part hydrogen peroxide. Let some of the cleaning mixture sit on the stained area 30-40 minutes, then use your homemade scrubber to scour the stain clean.

Make your scrubber in four quick steps. Buy about a yard of tulle, a lightweight machine-made netting that can be purchased from websites selling formal fabrics.

    • 3

Lay the tulle out flat. Just as you would hem a skirt, turn the fabric under so that it's about five inches wide. Keep folding it under in equal sections until it's completely folded into one long five-inch wide pile of tulle.

    • 4

Take a needle and strong thread and make big stitches across the middle of the pile of tulle. Leave a long sting on the thread and you can pull the thread easily to gather it.

    • 5

Cut the edges of the length of tulle and, using a gathering stitch, sew from one end to the other. Draw the tulle up into a medium size bunch and secure with stitches, then pull the puff around to open up the layers and to create a nice circular puff. Trim it into a ball about the size of your hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • A bit of vinegar can banish hard water stains. Apply with a wash rag and let soak for an hour or so. Fill the tub up with hot water high enough to cover the stains. Use your homemade scrubber and clean the stains off and rinse. Do this once a week for a perfect tub. Good for freshening up your scrubber too.
