How to Play Concentration With Children

Kids love playing card games. Concentration is a memory card game that even the very young can play. The object of the game is to find matching pairs by memorizing where the cards are placed. The person with the most pairs wins. Follow these directions to play concentration with children.

Instructions

    • 1

      Take a deck of 52 playing cards. Shuffle them well. Place 10 cards face down in a row. Make a new row under the first row with 10 more cards face down.

      Continue until you have 5 rows, one under the other. Place the two extra cards anywhere under the last row.

      Agree to the rules before you start. The object of the game is to find as many pairs as you can. You can match numbers only which means if you pick a 5 of hearts, you can get the 5 of diamond, 5 of clubs or 5 spades to match. You can agree to match numbers and colors which means, if you pick a 5 of hearts, you have to get the 5 of diamonds to match because they are both red suits. The black fives would not count as a match.

      Turn over any two cards. Take the cards if the pair matches. Turn the cards back over if they do not match.

      Take another turn if your cards match. Play continues until all cards are matched. The winner is the player with the most cards.

      Try another deck of cards. You can buy decks with alphabet characters or television characters. Match the characters together. The game is the same but the pictures are different.

      Buy a concentration game which combines the game concentration with a game board. You can match pairs and move around a board.

  • Use any deck of cards you like as long as there are matching pairs.
