How to Pick a Caster Board

Caster boards have become all the rage lately. If you love skateboarding, snowboarding or just gliding around on wheels, you have to try a caster board. They are made with just two wheels and have two separate platforms (one for each foot.) Rather than pushing off the ground to gain momentum, you simply twist your feet on the platforms. It's truly revolutionary. Here are some tips on how to pick a caster board.

Instructions

Go to your local sporting good store like Modell's or Big Five Sporting Goods. A caster board is not something that you should order online as you want to make sure that you like it and that the board you are buying feels right to you under your feet.

Check the weight requirements. Most caster boards come in a one-sized frame that can support up to 220 lbs. If you are bigger than that, you will have to special order the product. Go to Ripstick's website for more information on special ordering.

Choose which color you like. This comes down to personal preference. As caster boards are becoming more and more popular, they are becoming even harder to pick. There are just too many cool designs out there. Make sure you look at several before making your decision. As you know, your board becomes part of your personality.

Ride it around the store. Don't go crazy and zoom up and down the aisles. But get a feel for the board under your feet. You want to make sure that the platforms turn easily so that you can gain momentum. If they are stuck, or feel sticky at all, try another board.

Tips & Warnings

  • Buy the proper safety equipment that goes along with your caster board. This includes elbow and kneepads, as well as gloves for your hands and a helmet for your head. Consider safety goggles as well; you don't need anything flying in your eye while you're trucking along at 20 m.p.h.
