Niagara Falls is New York state's second most popular attraction. It actually includes several different falls that stretch between the U.S. and Canada near Lake Ontario. Here's how you can see Bridal Veil and American Falls on the New York side of the border.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Look at Niagara Falls from above their surface. You do not have to be a bird to enjoy a top-down view. You can get your feet of the ground by visiting the Niagara Reservation State Park. There you can go to the Visitor's center and travel through the Observation Tower, a 200 foot glass elevator. For those that are a little more daring, you can take a helicopter over the falls.
Step2
Take on Niagara Falls from the ground. Skirt over the rocks and water on one of Niagara Falls' famous boats or walking tours. There are several companies that offer walking tours next to and behind the waterfalls. You can also cruise on the Maid of the Mist, Niagara's most famous boat that takes you right up to the foot of the falls.
Step3
See Niagara Falls from the bottom up. In New York, you can go underground and take the "Niagara Gorge Discovery Tour." This tour starts at New York's Geological History Museum.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you decide to get up close to the falls, don't wear your best shoes as you will probably get wet. Check with your tour guide to see if they will provide you a rain suit or if you should bring your own.
