2. Learn everything you can about the business by reading books and magazines about the sound effects industry.
3. Find and enroll in a university that has an excellent film program. While many film programs won't have a sound effects major, you can talk to and work with professors who know post production techniques and possibly tailor your program to focus on sound effects.
4. Work on as many student films as possible. Most student directors don't necessarily have the time or know-how to have extensive effects sound in their productions so you will be a valuable addition to the film crew. If you're good you'll be known as the person who can add all of the cool explosions to their films.
5. Secure as many internships as possible while you're in school. These internships will not only increase your knowledge of how to create great sound effects from explosions to squeaky doors, but will give you the connections you will need to get your first job.
