When traveling with a pet there's about as much responsibility involved as there is with children. You have to make sure you keep them safe. This is true whether traveling by car, bus or plane. Follow these steps to keep your pet safe while traveling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Immunize your pet before traveling to keep him safe. If you're already up-to-date on his shots then you'll be fine. The more ground you cover the higher the chances that your pet can contract something.

  2. Step 2

Take your pet for a checkup to make sure he's physically okay to travel. This is especially recommended if you have an old or sickly pet.

  3. Step 3

Put your cat in a carrier or your dog in a restraining harness to keep them safe if you're traveling by car. Any sudden movements or accidents can result in injury to your pet.

  4. Step 4

Feed your pet a little less than normal when in the car. The motion of the car can make your pet vomit, and nothing stinks worse than vomit when traveling.

  5. Step 5

Microchip your pet or put an ID tag on him before traveling. This will increase the chances that he is returned to you safely should you get separated.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never leave your pet in the vehicle alone. Even when parked in shady areas or with the windows partially open the inside temperature can reach fatal levels.
  • Do not let your pet stick his head out of the window when driving. Flying objects can become dangerous projectiles when driving freeway speeds.
