Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Determine the nutritional needs of your fish. Some predators eat large amounts of meat, while others prefer algaes. Most tend to eat both, but they usually have a preference. For example, a lion fish eats more meat, whereas a tang prefers algae.
Step2
Purchase foods based on your fish's requirements. There are three main categories of fish food: frozen foods, flake foods and pellets. Each category has several different types of food, so you have different options within each type.
Step3
Keep in mind that some fish will eat any type of food you give them, but others are picky and will eat only certain types of food. Because of this, you may have to try several types before you find one that works for your particular pets.
Step4
Give your fish at any feeding only what they can consume in a five-minute period. Uneaten food will break down in the tank and foul the water, causing you to have to change it more often. Also, overfeeding your fish can make them sick.
Step5
Take the opportunity while feeding your fish to observe them and make sure that they're healthy. Watch for signs of disease and make sure that they're eating. Fish that don't eat are usually sick or overly stressed.
