Cactus is not just for adornment or eating. You can use the plant to keep intruders off your property and protect your home from criminals. Follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide where you want to plant the cactus. Burglars often use windows to gain access to your house, so you should plant your cactus directly below any windows in your home. Back windows are particular targets for thieves, who prefer working out the public's sight.

  2. Step 2

Find the right cactus for the job. Choose the biggest, tallest and thorniest plants. You can look at your local home and garden supply store, or if you live in the right climate, simply drive out into the country and secure some plants for your home security project.

  3. Step 3

Plant your cactus plants close together and pack them in as tightly as possible. Make it virtually impossible to reach the window without getting a leg and buttock full of thorns.

Tips & Warnings
  • As a theft-deterrent, cactus in the yard isn't fail-proof. You should combine it an alarm system to ensure the safety of your family.
