Cooped up through the cold winter months, it's easy to surrender to cravings for rich warm desserts. Unfortunately, many of these desserts aren't good for you. Here are some healthy options to sweeten your winter blues.

  1. Step 1

    Make fruit the center of attention when baking. Warm pies, cobblers and crisps will hit the spot your sweet tooth craves while providing nutrients as well. Apples and peaches are great fruits to include in winter baking.

  2. Step 2

    Enjoy a healthy version of gingerbread or shortbread cookies. Choose fiber-full oatmeal raisin cookies over chocolate chip.

  3. Step 3

    Bake an angelfood cake for a healthy alternative. Top with low-sugar or sugar-free chocolate sauce or caramel, or fruit toppings.

  4. Step 4

    Sip warm treats such as hot cocoa, spiced tea, cappucino and other coffee-based beverages.

  5. Step 5

    Create smoothies with frozen berries and yogurt, frozen yogurt or milk. These healthful desserts can also double as a good-for-you breakfast or snack.

  6. Step 6

    Make an oatmeal cookie fruit pizza using a large baked oatmeal cookie, low-fat cream cheese and fresh fruit.

  7. Step 7

    Enjoy baked apples or peaches with cinnamon for added flavor.

    Dip strawberries in dark chocolate for a tasty, sweet and bitter dessert.
