Madame Alexander's dolls are so popular with adults and children, McDonalds actually gives out tiny versions of the doll in their Happy Meals. If your child is interested in starting a collection of these keepsakes, you can help her choose her first Madame Alexander Doll.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider a doll that comes with changeable outfits, such as the Little Women Journals Play Doll Collection, based on the novel "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. While these dolls are for collecting, some older children can play with these dolls. However, children should never drag a Madame Alexander doll by its hair, leave it out in the rain or play with them in a sand box. If your child wants a play doll, get her a less valuable doll.

  2. Step 2

Avoid buying your child an expensive Madame Alexander doll as a first doll. While the expensive dolls are the most ornate and often the most beautiful, you child might ruin the doll while playing with it, destroying its value.

  3. Step 3

Buy a doll your child will understand. Dolls based around nursery rhymes, Disney characters and fairy tales may be perfect for your child. Other dolls such as historical figures or literary characters are beautiful, but a waste if your child does not understand their context.

  4. Step 4

Consider getting your child a Madame Alexander baby doll, such as a Baby Huggums. While these dolls probably shouldn't be played with often, your child may have more fun rocking, feeding and talking to a baby doll than they might have with a collectible doll that sits on a shelf.

  5. Step 5

Purchase your child's first Madame Alexander doll to remember a special event, such as a birthday party, graduation, Christmas, Halloween or some other holiday.

  6. Step 6

Save the box and accessories so the doll maintains value. Do not cut the hang tags from the doll's wrists.
