Vinyasa yoga is a form of yoga that concentrates on the importance of breathing and performing poses in a balanced way. Instead of just staying in one position, you go through various poses to complete a Vinyasa yoga sequence.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a Vinyasa yoga video or find a class that teaches this form of yoga. You can find numerous Vinyasa yoga titles on the Amazon.com and Video Fitness websites.

  2. Step 2

Learn some of the basic sequences. The most commonly used sequence in Vinyasa yoga classes are a Sun Salutation sequence. Other popular flows and sequences include the Pigeon Salutation, Warrior Flow and Balancing Flow.

  3. Step 3

Move from each pose to the next on an inhaling and exhaling breathing pattern. Exhale at the end of the pose and inhale as you begin the next pose.

  4. Step 4

Start and end in the same pose as you began. For example, in a basic Sun Salutation sequence, you start and end in a Tadasana pose.

  5. Step 5

Expect more movement. Many people enjoy Vinyasa yoga because you move a more in this type of class. Traditional yoga involves more simple stretching exercises and poses.

Tips & Warnings
  • Vinyasa yoga is also called "Flow yoga" because of the way that the yoga poses naturally run together.
  • Don't expect a Vinyasa yoga class to be as structured as a traditional yoga class. Classes are looser with no set rules on the poses and sequences that you perform.
