How to Add an AIM Buddy Icon to Trillian

There are many advantages to using Trillian, a program that combines some of your favorite instant messaging programs into one application. One difficulty with Trillian is getting buddy icons for AIM from sources like coolbuddy.com to work. Here is a simple way to get the buddy icons you find online into Trillian.

Instructions

1. Find your buddy icon. If you have one you already use and like for AIM then you just need to find from where you got it. If you need a new buddy icon, visit sites like coolbuddy.com or originalicons.com.

2. Copy the link location by right-clicking on the buddy icon and choosing the copy shortcut or copy link location option. Open a text editor and paste the shortcut by right-clicking and selecting paste. Highlight everything after "aim:BuddyIcon?src=." Right-click and hit "copy" to copy the image location. You should be left with a URL starting with "http://" and ending with ".gif" or another type of image file.

3. Open your Trillian preferences by clicking on the "Trillian" menu, and then clicking on the "Trillian Preferences" option. Click on the "Identities & Connections" button and choose your profile in the next screen. Click on the "Change" button next to your name.

4. Pick the "I'd like to use an icon from my computer" option. Find the magnifying glass under the window with the images and click on the "Browse for more pictures" link.

5. Paste the image location in the file name box by right-clicking in the box and selecting paste. You should see your URL for your buddy icon appear in the box. Press "Open" and wait for it to find the image. It will register the buddy icon from the online source instead of requiring you to download the image.

6. Check your Trillian profile to make sure that your buddy icon appears.
