Trillian is a convenient, multi-protocol chat client that allows you to instant message with AIM, ICQ, MSM and IRC through a single program. The convenience of Trillian has grown with the advent of "Trillian Anywhere," which will allows you to install Trillian on a portable storage device. Here is how to use "Trillian Anywhere" to take Trillian with you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Go to the "Trillian Anywhere" website and begin your setup by clicking the online wizard link at the top of the page. You will have to pick the version of Trillian you are using and move on to the next page.
Step2
Continue through the online wizard. In the initial setup portion, you will need to install another instance of Trillian to a temporary directory. You will then have the option to install extras such as skins and plugins so that you can personalize your Trillian.
Step3
Find your Trillian profiles. If you only have one profile for Trillian, you should be able to find it under the "default" folder in the "users" folder in your Trillian directory. If you have more profiles, they might be found in the "users" folder or they could be found in your "Documents and Settings" directory on your computer. You can run a search for "Trillian" on your PC to find the directory.
Step4
Create a "default" folder in the "users" folder of your Trillian installation that is in the temporary location. Copy the user profile information into this folder.
Step5
Edit files in the Trillian installation as instructed on the "Trillian Anywhere" website. You will be editing ".ini" files, which you can open in a text editor. After you make the adjustments to a file, make that file a read-only file by right clicking it, selecting "Properties" and checking the read-only box.
Step6
Open Trillian from its temporary location and be sure everything loads properly. You can download updates at this point. When you are done, copy the contents of the temporary directory into a folder on your portable storage device, such as a flash drive or CD. Run it from the drive to make sure it works.
