1
Call to make an appointment before you visit. If you will be taking a tour there's usually a small fee. Ask if there are other activities that may require scheduling ahead.
-
2
Wear the proper clothing according to the weather. Bring an extra pair of shoes in case the first pair get soiled. Carry hand wipes and sanitizer with you.
-
-
3
Pack a picnic lunch. Dairy farms can be a beautiful place to set up a blanket and have a sandwich. You might find picnic tables on the grounds.
-
4
Jump on a hay ride. Some farmers conduct tours of their farms on tractors pulling wagons or with hay rides. This is a lot of fun and a great way to see everything.
-
5
Milk the cow. Watch how the farmers milk a cow and you might even get a chance to try it, too. The farmers will explain the milking process from udder to table.
-
6
Learn about the life of a dairy farmer. Your tour guide will explain how they get up before dawn to begin milking and repeat this 2 or 3 times a day with each of the cows. You will also learn facts about the other farm animals.
-
7
Stop for a treat. Many dairy farms end your visit with a stop at the dairy shop. You can sample and buy farm cheese, milk and homemade ice cream.
